Your journey in the industry

From the first steps, to developing skills and expertise, to leadership and management. NZMOA supports and guides its members and their staff through lifelong training opportunities to help industry professionals stay up to date with best practice, strengthen networks and continue developing throughout their careers.

Starting your career

Many people begin their careers in marinas and boatyards straight from school or after working in related trades. Entry-level roles provide practical, hands-on experience in marina operations, vessel handling and customer service, often supported by apprenticeships, pre-trade training and industry programmes.

Developing skills and expertise

As experience develops, marina professionals can build their skills through specialised courses, micro-credentials and industry training. These programmes deepen knowledge in areas such as marina operations, environmental management, safety systems and customer service, helping staff expand their responsibilities and technical capability.

Leadership and management

Experienced professionals can progress into supervisory and management roles, leading teams and overseeing complex marina developments. Leadership programmes and advanced marina management courses support this progression, via industry qualifications that are known and respected worldwide.
