NZMOA CAREER PROFILE


Five years into his marina career, Alex Shaw is focused on ensuring he has well-rounded qualifications.

 

To set himself up for a successful future, Alex, whose role is Maintenance Supervisor at Bayswater Marina, has completed an Intermediate Marina Managers (IMM) course with the Marina Industries Association.

 

He has also recently completed a Marina Facilities – Marina Operations Apprenticeship with MAST Academy – undertaking the IMM and the Apprenticeship at the same time.

 

Next up he will supplement his knowledge with further training opportunities including the NZ Diploma in Vessel Technology Project Management, which offers  specialised Project Management skills and knowledge valuable in the marina and boatyard industry. He has the Advanced Marina Manager Qualification on his horizon.

 

Alex, who worked as a marine engine technician before joining Bayswater, enjoys working outdoors first and foremost. He is a familiar sight at NZMOA and industry gatherings and says he enjoys the collaboration and information sharing amonst the close knit community.

 

He looks forward to a future that could take him almost anywhere in New Zealand, using the knowledge and qualifications he has gained on the job and in the classroom.
