FROM ORAKEI MARINA - 2026 is a milestone year for Lou Ratu as she celebrates three decades in marina security.

Lou began her security career in 1996 with TSS Security, where her primary posting was at Westhaven Marina. It was there that she built strong relationships with many of the marina's 1,400 berth holders, becoming well known for her dedication, professionalism, and genuine passion for the marina community.
In July 2006, Lou joined Orakei Marina, where she has remained a loyal and valued member of the Orakei Marine team. Together with her colleagues, she helps oversee the security of the marina, and you'll often spot her out and about on her bicycle, checking on berth holders, keeping a watchful eye on their boats, and putting the fear of God into anyone misbehaving.
Throughout her career, Lou has consistently led by example. In April 2022, she was awarded the Auckland City District Commander's Certificate of Appreciation in recognition of her dedicated service and outstanding contribution to community safety. Earlier, in November 2010, she received the Outstanding Person Award from the Auckland Rotary Club.
During her more than ten years at Westhaven Marina, Lou played a pivotal role in reducing theft from boats and vehicles to almost zero. Her remarkable memory became legendary — she knew the names and vehicle registration numbers of nearly every one of the marina's 1,400 boat owners. It's a talent she continues to demonstrate today at Orakei Marina.
As one berth holder shared: “30 years of Security Service, Wow! Orakei Marina is truly her life and family, and it shows in everything she does. She puts so much love, care, and pride into her work, treating every single vessel as if it were her own and constantly going above and beyond for all of us. She is so warmly regarded right across the marina community.”
After three decades of dedicated service, Lou shows no signs of slowing down.
"We thank her for her unwavering commitment, passion, and care, and wish her many more happy years as the friendly, familiar face who helps keep Orakei Marina safe."
