 The NZMOA Code of Practise

Marinas and boatyards are essential services that sit at the centre of communiites and regional economies. Members of NZMOA have adopted this Code of Practice to ensure a high standard of citizenship is represented in their decision making and daily practice.

1. Integrity and professionalism

Act with honesty and professionalism at all times. Comply with all legal requirements and operate in a way that strengthens the reputation of your business, the broader industry and NZMOA.

4. Environmental responsibility

Operate in a way that protects and enhances the environment. Take responsibility for minimising environmental impact across all activities on land and at sea.

7. Standing behind your work

Take responsibility for the quality of your services. Respond promptly and fairly to any genuine concerns, and honour all commitments and guarantees.

10. Resolving complaints

Address complaints promptly and professionally. Wherever possible, resolve issues directly with customers in a fair and constructive way.

2. Quality of offering

Deliver high-quality products and services and accurate information. Be transparent and proactive with stakeholders including customers and tenants and ensure you stay informed about relevant laws, standards, and industry expectations.

5. Foster a culture of safety

Provide a safe and healthy environment for staff, contractors, and visitors. Maintain effective health and safety systems and clear emergency procedures.

8. Safe operations and handling

Ensure that all operations, equipment, and materials are handled safely and responsibly, with compliant, responsible and appropriate systems and procedures in place.

11. Collaboration and support

Reach out to the industry when you need support and advice, and provide support advice in return. Use NZMOA-approved forms, tools, and guidelines wherever appropriate to support consistent, high-quality practices across the industry.

3. Acting in the public interest

Put wider public interests at the forefront. Maintain high standards of behaviour and avoid any actions that could undermine public trust or confidence in the industry.

6. Transparent pricing and fair transactions

Be clear and upfront about pricing. Provide written details of costs before work begins and follow recognised industry practices. Protect customer privacy at all times.

9. Competent knowledgeable staff

Ensure all staff are trained, capable, and have access to training and career progression opportunities so that the industry is supported and sustainable for the long term.
