The marina and boatyard industry has a huge amount of potential for talented people seeking a strong career, and the New Zealand Marina Operators Association (NZMOA) is helping ensure that the opportunities are visible and accessible to all.

This comes as MAST Academy, which runs training programs for the industry locally including New Zealand Certificate in Boatyard Operations and Marina Operations courses, is leading a review of qualifications for the industry to ensure they are relevant and current.
“There is so much opportunity in the industry,” says NZMOA Chair Chris Galbraith. “Whether you want to work outside by the water, inside, or even around a board table, it’s fulfiling and challenging.”
There are around 115 marina and boatyard operations in New Zealand supporting more than 6,000 jobs both directly and directly– ranging from the big urban facilities to smaller operations in the regions, and their tenants and contractors.
“It can be a great lifestyle, working in a far part of the country, around boats and the water, and there are jobs available in just about every aspect from those outside and on the ground to project managers, administration, health and safety, planning, right through to senior managers.”
NZMOA teams up with specialist training providers to provide specialised training and qualifications, including MAST Academy in New Zealand, the Marina Industries Association in Australia, the Global Marina Institute of the UK, and the Association of Marina Industries in the USA.
“Together these organisations provide a clear and distinct pathway for a person as they progress through their career,” says Chris.
“NZMOA itself provides on the ground, practical learning opportunities designed and delivered by the industry.”
