Health of the Industry survey is underway

Qualifying marinas have now received an invitation to participate in the 2025 Health of the Marina Industry Survey for New Zealand.

The survey is confidential and will again be conducted by Drs Ed Mahoney and Steve Miller at Michigan State University.  

This survey will quantify the value of the marina sector to the New Zealand economy, its contributions to employment, and the social benefits generated.  Data such as this is critical to the marine associations that advocate and represent industry to governments; and to marina owners and operators when liaising with local authorities around potential developments or preferential conditions. 

The survey consolidates key operational data generating useful performance benchmarks which can be a valuable tool to assist in measuring marina operations, identifying areas of operational improvement and for recognising development opportunities.

All the data on the survey that you provide will be considered strictly confidential and Michigan State University will not provide access to the data by NZMOA, MIA or any organisation, agency or business.  The survey link is sent directly to you by Michigan State University researchers to ensure data security and confidentiality. 

The University researchers collect, analyse and provide consolidated results and trend data only.  If the response rate is high enough, the data will be segmented by region and marina type and size to provide more meaningful information and benchmarks for operators. The subject and sender details are below to assist in identifying it.

A complimentary copy of the complete consolidated report will be sent to all marinas that submit a completed survey.   For those who chose not to contribute but wish to acquire the survey it will be available to purchase from the NZMOA website for $2,500 for members and $4,500 non-members (ex GST).
