NZMOA Marinas & Boatyard Conference and AGM


The 2022 NZMOA Marinas & Boatyard Conference and AGM will include the presentation of the NZMOA Marina of the Year Awards for 2022 and will be held in the Marlborough Sounds and Nelson.

  • Wednesday 7 September and Thursday 8 September: Based at the Queen Charlotte Yacht Club’ and other venues in Picton and the Marlborough Sounds.

  • Friday 9 September: Depart Picton for Nelson for site tours of boat yards, marinas and slipways in Havelock and Nelson, including the Havelock Marina and associated marine businesses, Nelson Marina and Hardstand, The Port of Nelson’s Nelson Slipway’s redevelopment, and the Caldwell Slipway operation.

Networking

Members will celebrate success during the conference with NZMOA’s fourth annual 2022 NZMOA Marina of the Year Awards ceremony which will be held at the stunning Wither Hills Winery on the evening of Wednesday 7 September. Networking opportunities will be provided throughout the event where members will reconnect with each other and associate members will be able to share knowledge and experiences with the membership, including the display of products and initiatives within the conference venue.

 

Learning

Facing Challenges and Moving into the Future is the theme of the conference. Presentations and panel discussions will focus on the issues facing most marinas and hardstands including increasing raw material costs, logistical challenges with product delivery. Participants will view multiple new developments including the under construction Waikawa Marina extension and will hear from marina operators such as Nelson City Council and Wellington City Council who are undertaking long term master planning exercises to plan for their marina’s future over the next 30-40 years. Members will hear how the plan provision for sustainable features such as sea level rise and environmental considerations to deliver solutions for the long term.

 We will welcome representatives from local and central government to update and inform the membership on specific items of interest including the focus on new and improved rules and regulations to minimise the further incursions of existing bio foul into regions not yet impacted, along with the further awareness of rules to protect New Zealand against the arrival of new biosecurity risks.

We will hear from members who are working on new extensions and developments and understand from them their motivators including lessons learnt as their project’s have worked their way through the rigour of the planning approval process and how to manage public engagement where social media sits as the community’s voice.

The group will discuss the challenges faced with retaining staff and sourcing and training replacement staff. We’ll hear from members who have faced adversity with storm and tsunami events which have damaged product.

Executive members will provide regional updated from around the country and explain how central government funding has supported a number of the regions to develop new infra structure.   

We will have at least two sessions from guests from across the Tasman including the CEO of the MIAA who will update the industry as how the Australian industry has fared during the pandemic and how they were able to open their borders early allowing the service industry to restablish itself.  

Planning your trip

The event will commence in Picton at the Queen Charlotte Yacht Club at 9:30am on Wednesday 7th September. Favourable accomodation rates are available the Tuesday night before so it is recommended that members travel to Blenheim the Tuesday evening allowing a full day on the Wednesday. The event will conclude in Nelson with coach drop off to the Nelson airport no later than 4:00pm allowing for departing flights from 5:00pm onwards. 

Accommodation

Members are to book and pay for their own travel and accommodation for the conference. There are numerous accommodation options in Picton that are within walking distance of the conference venue at Queen Charlotte Yacht Club – Picton Yacht Club Hotel, Picton Waterfront Apartments, Gateway Motel and Picton Beachcomber Inn. Conference Fees

Registration Fees:

The following registration fees will be charged at the time of registration. Thanks to sponsorship, conference fees have not been increased this year.

  • Full NZMOA Member (including Associates) – full Conference (excludes Dinners) - $495 plus gst

  • Non Member – Full Conference - $695 plus gst

  • Full NZMOA Member (including Associates) – Single Day (excludes award dinner)`- $300 plus gst

  • Non Member – Single Day - $350 plus gst

Name changes and cancellation is permitted within 14 days of the event. All shared expenses not included in the registration fee will be invoiced after the event – this includes group dinners and any shared travel costs.

A credit card number is required to guarantee the accommodation bookings and to speed up check in times at the hotel.

Online Registration:

Each attendee at the event must be registered using the online booking form, one online entry for each attendee please.  The conference can accommodate 100 people so register early to avoid disappointment.
